Greenbushes Discovery Centre
A recipient of a Tourism Award, this is a must see. Inside is a replica of an underground mine with an interactive video explaining how the ore is extracted. You even experience ‘an explosion’. There is also a replica timber forest giving information on the four main trees in the area – Jarrah, Karri, Marri and Pine. Wander through the ‘forest’ and learn how the trees are harvested and milled, experience what it is like to drive a log hauling truck, be inside the wood drying kiln and see the final product of fine furniture. There are also samples of native animals from the area, in the Land Dome inside the centre.
Hire of canoes and kayaks are available from Maranup Ford (a working farm and caravan park – approx 15 minutes drive west of Bridgetown on the Blackwood River) – phone 9761 1200. Canoes are also available for hire from the Bridgetown Caravan Park South Western Highway – phone 9761 1900.
